“In many years as a full-time landscape photographer I have never before or since seen quite such a sky as this new-year’s evening in the remote southeast Oregon desert. The red crept into the scene, illuminating the underside of this highly textured lenticular cloud. The desert is a dried playa I had scouted out earlier that day. The streaks come from muddy water blowing across the plain. The cracks were formed later and dried slightly from the light of the afternoon. I was only able to get off a few shots in the minute or less the light appeared.”
